This week’s health food product review and here we have the MitoGuard® Intensive Sachets by BioCare.
BioCare describe their MitoGuard® Intensive sachets as a unique, high potency powder combination designed to support energy production and reduce fatigue. It provides a synergistic blend of d-ribose, CoQ10, vitamins B2 and B3, N-acetyl cysteine and magnesium malate.
Research has now linked mitochondrial dysfunction to a host of health problems including Alzheimers, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME, Fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s Disease and many others.
After being diagnosed and suffering for over a decade with chronic fatigue syndrome, I became very interested in researching all I could about the mitochondria and various dietary supplements which could be used to support energy production.
Personally I have had massive success and many health benefits such as increased energy, less shortness of breath, increased exercise capacity, reduction of post-exertional symptoms and less heart palpitations supplementing with the likes of magnesium citrate/malate, Co-Enzyme Q10 in the form of Ubiquinol, D-Ribose, Alpha Lipoic Acid, B-Complex Vitamins and many others.
Review
I am a big fan of BioCare’s supplements and have used them many times over the years with good results.
MitoGuard® Intensive is a well-designed supplement and contains most the of common general mitochondrial support nutrients such as Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, D-Ribose, Co-Enzyme Q10, N-Acetyl-Cysteine and Magnesium Malate.
I like that they have included magnesium in the form of magnesium malate. Both magnesium and malic acid contribute to ATP formation and magnesium malate is a highly absorbable form of magnesium for individuals with mitochondrial dysfunction. It would be good to see BioCare include NADH as the form of Niacin for extra benefits.
MitoGuard® Intensive contains Co-Enzyme Q10 which is one of my favorite nutraceutical supplements for supporting energy, mitochondria and heart health. Co-Enzyme Q10 levels naturally lower as we age and deficiency has been found in many health problems.
Studies have found low plasma and myocardial tissue levels of Co-Enzyme Q10 in individuals with heart disease(heart failure) and health conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome/ME, where Co-Enzyme Q10 deficiency is now proven to play a role in the pathophysiology. [1]
I also like that they have included a small dosage of D-Ribose, which is another favorite supplement of mine for increasing energy. A small pilot study has also found D-Ribose supplements to significantly reduce clinical symptoms in patients suffering from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. [2]
Personally I notice an immediate boost in energy after consuming the MitoGuard and it makes for a great alternative natural pre-workout energy booster supplement also. I have been taking a sachet before my workouts with good success in boosting energy and muscular endurance.
Increasing ATP and supporting the mitochondria with nutritional support is a much healthier way to increase energy than relying on traditional CNS stimulants such as caffeine or caffeine rich herbs such as guarana, which typically deplete adaptive energy stores and stress the adrenal glands.
Overall I really rate MitoGuard® Intensive and would recommend it to any of our readers looking for a broad spectrum mitochondrial support supplement. BioCare also do MitoGuard® Intensive in capsule form as an alternative to the sachets.
